THE CLASSIC AMONG GLACIER TOURS
This classic glacier tour is for the experienced mountain walker, as well as for those who did a Monte Rosa tour or Mont Blanc.
From France to Switzerland, from Mont Blanc to Matterhorn, you will hike from valley to valley with a view of the most impressive mountains of the Alps. Roped up safely with the mountain guide, you will cross glaciers and snowfields.
For this adventurous trip alpine experience is an advantage but not a condition. But you must be in excellent physical and mental shape because the daily hikes are pretty long (5 to 8 hours). You should also be acclimatised. We recommend to do some alpine walking a few days prior to the trip. When circumstances are good, we climb Tête Blanche (3724 m), the ultimate h(e)igh(t) of the week. We will spend the nights in mountain huts and halfway through the week we will stay in an hotel in Arolla.
The week starts in Vallorcine near Chamonix. The following day we will walk to the Albert I hut (2702 m). In the afternoon instruction in using crampons, ice axes and ropes is on the program, on the glacier next to the hut.
We then go over the Col Superieur du Tour, which forms the border with Switzerland, via the great glacier du Trient on to Champex. From here we continue through the Walliser Alps to Arolla and Zermatt.
The final night will be spent in the Schönbiel hut (2694 m) with a view on Matterhorn north face! The next day we will descent to Zermatt where we will for sure enjoy a drink in one of the outdoor cafés. Return by small bus to Chamonix and traditional goodbye raclette-meal.
