Ski Plus & Freeride 'Secret Places' Andermatt - Disentis
The freeride Secret Places of Central Switzerland
The small village of Andermatt, located at an altitude of 1444 meter in central Switzerland, lies in an area known for its guaranteed snow, with snow coming in from all 4 wind-directions. Andermatt does not have to prove itself; it is the ideal freeride destination. 2 large cable cars bring us to Gemsstock at almost 3000 m. Many freeride descents await us, like the Guspis and the Giraffe. In the past few years our guides have explored the freeride area around Andermatt in great detail: they counted more than 100 different off piste descents at all levels, from gentle slopes to steep couloirs.
Andermatt lies in the heart of the Alps, where the mountain passes of Gotthard, Oberalp and Furka meet. Our hotel is located opposite the Gemsstock cable car and the attractive and traditional centre of town is within walking distance.
After 2 days Andermatt we take the train to Disentis, passing the Oberalp Pass. We will stay 2 nights in comfort hotel Cucagna with heated outside pool and sauna plus a very good cuisine. Disentis has many freeride descents to offer and the 2 areas connect nicely with each other. Both areas have good possibilities for reaching superb descents by using climbing skins. The views are stunning. On Fridays, if weather conditions are good, Pazolastock can be climbed on skins from the Oberalp Pass followed by a descent to Andermatt. Or the Oberalpstock is possible with a descent to Sedrun, an exciting trip. But also in snowy conditions there are plenty of possibilities and skins will not be necessary. We return to Andermatt on Friday night. Luggage can be sent by train.
