Valle d'Aosta

Valle d'Aosta - Courmayeur-Valdotanian charmsaao-08_13

The Italian Val d'Aosta, closed in by Europes highest mountain massifs, combines the typical Italian charm with 'Grand Ski' of the very best kind. From our comfortable and strategically located hotel with sauna in La Palud, near Courmayeur, we have endless possibilities of making great off piste descents during a week, for the advanced off piste skier.

Valle d'Aosta - Courmayeur

sacao2-10_21

The ski area of Courmayeur offers varied descents, both in the open and in the woods which is great in case of heavy snowfall. The rough south side of Mont Blanc rises steeply from Val Veny and forms an impressive setting above the Courmayeur pistes. Many great off piste descents are waiting and there is also a heli ski base. By bringing skins we can even create more possibilities.

Val d’Aosta is known for its excellent cuisine and has a variety of great restaurants on the pistes. The hotel, with a beautiful view, a comfortable lounge with open fire place and a sauna, is situated right next to the lift to Pointe Helbronner, offering access to Vallée Blanche, Glacier Toula, Col d’Entrèves etc. These are long, sometimes steep glacier descents in the middle of Mont Blanc massif amidst beautiful ochre coloured granite walls. Height differences of 3000 m per run are no exception. It is without doubt 'du Grand Ski’ in this French part of Italy!

It is absolutely worth the effort to go to the La Thuile domain for a day, connected to La Rosière in France on the road from the Petit St. Bernard col. Another worthwhile day is helicopter skiing on the flanks of the Ruitor above St. Foye-Tarentaise or in Valgrisenche. Plenty of possibilities in this relatively unknown area south of Chamonix, easily accessible by the renovated Mont Blanc tunnel.

This trip is an interesting choice for those who have seen Chamonix, Engelberg, Andermatt or La Grave and are ready for a new experience. We can choose between high altitude glaciers and beautiful woods and, if possible, we will "attack" a couloir before descending on a typical Italian restaurant. If necessary, we can find hidden side valleys with the help of skins under our skis.....And with good weather conditions and the right group size, heliski is possible.

Breakfast at the hotel is excellent. Every night we dine in one of the neighbouring restaurants and enjoy the many Valdotanian specialties and wines. Our hosts and hostesses in the Aosta valley are friendly and charming, and we are sure you will enjoy a pleasant stay.
