On expedition with Edward Bekker Ski & Alpinisme
With us, it’s not only about getting to the top, but also about the journey. We take the most beautiful and interesting routes. The trips are well organized and carried out in cooperation with local professional guides. The ultimate goal is of course always the summit and our approach has brought about a lot of success. For instance we have a 100% success rate with Kilimanjaro. All participants have for many years reached both the peaks of Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Since 2002, our climbs of Elbrus have also had a perfect record.
Despite the enormous effort of participants and guides, it is possible that the goal, the summit, is not reached. Success depends on a number of factors, including the weather and the circumstances on the mountain. Our guides take all factors into account and always choose the safest routes.
However, the higher and more difficult the climb, the less certainty there is of reaching the top. Mountain guides are aware of the fact that the traditional way of guiding is impossible on peaks of more than 8,000m. At that altitude, the guide is more of a coach and has an advisory role in choosing the right approach. In this situation each participant must be aware of the higher risks. Climbing capacity, mentality, physical condition, experience, team spirit and personal responsibility are crucial to achieving success and to limiting the risks.
We advise future expedition participants to build up to higher and more difficult climbs. Good preparation for high peaks is necessary, except for climbs like the Mont Blanc and other 4,000m peaks in the Alps, such as Monte Rosa, and others like our Ecuador Volcano Expedition. Even experienced hikers are qualified to participate in these trips.
